Designing My Wedding Center Pieces {Using Clear Wine Bottles}

With the wedding only four and a half months away I feel like there is still so much to do. I know that I am going to have a ton of DIY things for the reception since I want to make sure that everything is cost efficient. Ok, and because I want everything to be perfect and just what I have envisioned.

Pinterest has been a great help with all of my planning so far! It has helped me decide so many things, for instance: My wedding color scheme along with some of my other Wedding ideas.

Although today I am going to need a little bit of your help. I can’t decide what I want to do with all of these clear glass wine bottles. My Mom and Dad were down at a winery in Missouri, where they picked up a couple dozen empty clear wine bottles that I can use for the wedding. A whole box of empty wine bottles

So naturally I would go on pinterest to see what kind of DIY’s I could come up with for clear wine glasses. These were my favorites:

This one I cold even use all of the corks I have been collecting.

Meanwhile, I had to get these bottles in shape for the wedding. I needed to remove the tops and the labels off of all of them. I thought it would take hours because there were so many.

I love old Wine Bottles

I filled up our sink with hot water and put a quarter of a teaspoon of Basic H into the tub and let them soak for 10 minutes.

Put some Basic H in a Hot Tub of water to help get the lables off easly

To my surprise all of the labels came right off! Thank you Basic H!

I am so glad it only took me 10 minutes to get all of these cleaned and not a couple of hours like I thought it would.

So after all of that work, the question still stands: What do you think I should do with all of these wine bottles? I just can’t make up my mind.

The Story Of How We Got Engaged

Every story has a beginning and you never know when the beginning of your future story will start. When it comes to Brandon and my story, it began in the summer of 2010.  I didn’t know it then but when I walked into the bank on July 15, 2010, my life had changed forever. If you would have told me then that my “Bank Teller” was going to be my future husband, I would have thought you were crazy. Although this was the beginning of our story together.

We spend the entire summer together, some would say we were inseparable. It wasn’t until September 7th, 2010 that Brandon officially asked me to be his girlfriend. He took me downtown Chicago and asked me in Millennium Park right next to “the Bean”. This day was very special to us; the beginning of our relationship together as a couple. Little did we know just how important that day was going to be in our future.

A walk through our journey

We went back to the city each year on our anniversary. We love being able to spend the day in the city.  We never like to do the same thing twice, except for “the Bean” of course. It really gives us a chance to see all of the wonders of Chicago.

Spending the Day in Chicago by the Bean in Mellennium Park. The place we got Engaged

On our 2 year anniversary, Brandon took us back to Millennium Park. We had someone take a picture of us in the same spot that he asked me out and then he gave me a big hug and kiss. He then told me how much he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. To my surprise he then got down on one knee and lovingly looked into my eyes and said:

“Elisabeth, 2 years ago today I asked you to be my girlfriend and today I have one more question for you.” He then pulled out the ring and then said “Will you marry me?”Brandon Preposed next to the Bean downtown Chicago in Millennium Park After we spent the day around town, Brandon and I had dinner reservations at the Signature Room on the 95th floor of the John Hancock. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day. Not only did we get to see the entire city’s skyline but we also had the privilege of watching the sun set during our amazing dinner!

The signature room, downtown Chicago! Our engaememnt!

During dinner we had plenty of time to talk about setting the day for our big day! I am excited to announce to you that we will be married September 7th, 2013! September 7th is going to be a day that I will never forget!

Do you remember a special day in your life that you will never forget? Are you married? How did your husband propose? Do you have any advice that you would like to share with me?

Cleaning Your Winter Boots

I have been talking a lot about Chicago winters and how they take a toll everything. I would have to say that my winter boots take the biggest toll of all. The amount of salt that is laid on the ground to melt the snow is more than enough to to wreck my boots and I don’t take care of them the way I know I should.

How to get salt off your winter boots with DIY wipes.

Here is a short video showing you exactly what I do to not only clean off my boots but to keep them clean as well.

How to get salt off your boots in winter.

My mom (From Parents Of A Dozen) has a great video showing you just how we make these organic handy wipes using an all natural house hold cleaner. I have been using these wipes around my house of over 10 years now and I will never go back to store bought wipes again.

Cleaning off salt stains from your boots in winter.

Are your boots having a rough time with all of this winter salt? Do you even live in place where there is salt because the snow is never ending?

Thanks for following along!
