I Got Married {My Wedding}

I am so excited to announce to all of you that on September 7th, 2013 Brandon and I became Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Johnson! That’s right I am now officially Elisabeth Johnson!

Brandon and I had been dating for 2 years before he proposed. We then had a year to plan the wedding before we said our wedding vows. Little did we know just how much time and energy it would take to finalize all of the finishing details on the wedding. I took pictures and documented every detail that went into the wedding so I can share it all with you.

Here are some of the final results of the DIY projects that went into the wedding along with a quick recap of the day.

Giedre from Walking Dot Photography did an amazing job capturing all of the details of the day. You have to check her out and if you live in the Chicago land area, you have to give her a call and set something up. Or if you are every just passing through, you won’t be disappointed! You can also check out more the pictures from out big day Here!

The way I look at a wedding, it is the biggest and most fun party that you are ever going to through with all of your friends and family. Now marriage, that is a completely different thing. Brandon and I not only prepared for the wedding but for the Sacrament of Marriage as well. I will go into more details about that later but I am officially restarting my Wedding Wednesdays! I am going to start from the beginning on every single detail for planning a wedding!

I didn’t want to post all of the pictures beforehand because I wanted everything to be a surprise for all of my guest as many of them read my blog and would have known everything I was doing. So now that the wedding is over and married life has started I can now share all of my secrets with all of you.

Carrying Your Color Scheme Throughout the Wedding Reception {Wedding Update}

I can’t believe that the wedding is only 2 months away. I feel like I have gotten so much done and yet there is still so much to do. I love the idea of DIY’s although they do take up a little more time than if you just bought things outright. I just have to think about the amount of money that I am saving and and have to see if it out ways the time that I am putting into it.

The best thing about doing things myself is that I am able to do everything exactly the way that I want and in the exact color that I want. I am looking forward to adding a pop of color throughout my entire wedding day, I feel as though this really ties everything together.

I am going to be using a lot of candles throughout the entire reception and I wanted to make sure that I not only were they the right color but that they would burn all night long as well. I ended up finding both and for a very reasonable cost as well. I ended up ordering them online at QuickCandles.com. They were well priced, deviled fast and when I burned them they lasted the full 10 hours.

These Votive Candles are such a pretty color and they were super inexpencive!

I love the color and size of these candles Purple Votive candle holders

I seriously can’t wait to show you how I use all of these candles come the bid day! I hope that it is everything that I have dreamt it to be.

Now, I have to ask, did you use candles for your reception and did it look good with all of the mood lighting? Oh, and did you go with white of colored candles?

Until next time!

Corks, Corks and More Corks! {Wedding Update}

For those of you who know me, you know and would agree that I love the little things in life. I like taking something simple and making it beautiful! I believe that if we took more time to appreciate the little things in life we wouldn’t be so stressed out.

Take corks for instance; they may not seem like much but there are so many thing you can do with something so small. Think about it, corks can also be so romantic. The only place you can get a cork is from a wine bottle and wine is a sure sign of romance.

I can't wait to use these corks at my wedding recieption.

My little brother started collecting corks a long time ago. Needless to say that over the years we have accumulated a good amount or corks. So many, in fact, that my mom started using them as decorations around the house. I am using corks as part of my wedding!

Then one day on Pinterest I came across some really good ideas for different uses for corks. More importantly, corks  that I can incorporate into my wedding day! (You can follow me on Pinterest HERE to get my latest pins.) These are some of the pins I found with corks.

After seeing all of these cute ideas, I gathered all of the corks that my mom had been using as decorations around the house.

Brandon helped me sort them…

And Count them.

I love corks and the fact that they can be used for so many things!

We have more than enough to use for our reception. Now we just have to decide what we are going to use them for.

What do you think we should do with them?

Joining Two Families {Wedding Wednesday}

There are so many wonderful things about being engaged, my mind is spinning with joy.  There are so many things that need to get done before the big day that I don’t even know where to begin.

I am so thankful to have Brandon to help keep me in line. He is always there to relax me and help get my mind back on track. He reassures me that we have plenty of time to get everything done. I just love him, I honestly don’t know what I would do with out him!

Seeing that we are joining two very different families, the first thing we needed to do was to tell our families. This was easy for us because both of our families approve and kind of already knew. Brandon told his mom and sister he was going to ask me to marry him just before we left for Chicago. He also asked my dad 2 days before he asked me and my dad is no good at keeping secrets and almost everyone knew, except me. It was a good thing that I didn’t see my dad for those 2 days! 😉

And 2 Families Became 1

As you can see here, I am one of 12 children and once one person knows something, everyone knows it! There is never a dull moment at our house. Many of you may already know my mom and dad from Parents Of A Dozen, my sister Bonnie from House Of Grace or my brother Doug from White House Black Shutters. My family was excited to here me actually say “I’m engaged”! But as you can see here, we may be a crazy bunch but we are a loving bunch and we would do anything for one another.

Brandon’s family on the other hand, is a lot quieter and calmer than my family. It is just him his mom and his sister (The lady in Red is Brandon’s Aunt. I couldn’t find a recent picture of just us). They too we excited about our engagement. This will be the first wedding for the Johnson’s so you can imagine how excited they are!

The Johnson Family

Regardless of our families differences they are both loving, understanding and looking forward to the day were we will become one! Both, Brandon and I, feel very blesses to have such supportive and loving families and that we will both have such great in-laws.

Do you get along with your in-laws and did you have a hard time joining two families?
