First I would like to thank everyone for all of your support, comments and advice from my Johnson Home Tour.
What most of you don’t know is that 3 hours after signing the contract for our house, we walked into our new home full of water. Sometime in between our final walk through (which was a few days before. Keep in mind that this is just 6 days after our wedding and the night before our honeymoon) and us signing the contract a hose in the bathroom disconnected from the wall and was shooting out water like crazy.
Our plummer seems to think that the hose was shooting out water at about 3 gallons a minute for a solid day. Now get this, Brandon only took a long lunch to sign on the house and went right back to work. My Mother-in-law and I were the only 2 people present when arrived at the house and we had nothing to clean it up. So…. we had to call in some reserves: My family, Brandon’s family and our neighbors of about 3 hours to come and help us clean up our house. (Luckily we knew some of our neighbors prior to buying the place.)
Here come the good (bad) part. Do you remember when I washed my iPhone? Well all of the pictures from the flood were on there and I lost everything off of it. I hadn’t had the phone that long and I never set up my iCloud! So I only have 4 pictures from that day and that is only because I text them to my sister and she still had them.
So here they are: Our living room. We had to pull up the carpet that night.
Once it was all out we had to put fans on it. I think we ended up having 10 to 15 fans going in the house at one time and 5 in this room alone.
Our basement: The water was dripping from the ceiling for a couple of hours while we tried to clean it all up. You can also see the stairs going up had padding on it….
… and all of that had to come off because it was soaked. As well as the drywall.
After the water settled down a little, my neighbors helped me clean out the vents throughout the basement because they were full of water as well.
Need less to say, we didn’t get done cleaning the house until 11:30 and in bed until after midnight and we had to get up at 3 for our flight the next day. But that is a whole other story for a different day.
I just can’t get over the fact that hours after closing we walked into that… have you ever heard of such a thing? Did anything crazy like this happen to you or someone you know?
