Joining Two Families {Wedding Wednesday}

There are so many wonderful things about being engaged, my mind is spinning with joy.  There are so many things that need to get done before the big day that I don’t even know where to begin.

I am so thankful to have Brandon to help keep me in line. He is always there to relax me and help get my mind back on track. He reassures me that we have plenty of time to get everything done. I just love him, I honestly don’t know what I would do with out him!

Seeing that we are joining two very different families, the first thing we needed to do was to tell our families. This was easy for us because both of our families approve and kind of already knew. Brandon told his mom and sister he was going to ask me to marry him just before we left for Chicago. He also asked my dad 2 days before he asked me and my dad is no good at keeping secrets and almost everyone knew, except me. It was a good thing that I didn’t see my dad for those 2 days! 😉

And 2 Families Became 1

As you can see here, I am one of 12 children and once one person knows something, everyone knows it! There is never a dull moment at our house. Many of you may already know my mom and dad from Parents Of A Dozen, my sister Bonnie from House Of Grace or my brother Doug from White House Black Shutters. My family was excited to here me actually say “I’m engaged”! But as you can see here, we may be a crazy bunch but we are a loving bunch and we would do anything for one another.

Brandon’s family on the other hand, is a lot quieter and calmer than my family. It is just him his mom and his sister (The lady in Red is Brandon’s Aunt. I couldn’t find a recent picture of just us). They too we excited about our engagement. This will be the first wedding for the Johnson’s so you can imagine how excited they are!

The Johnson Family

Regardless of our families differences they are both loving, understanding and looking forward to the day were we will become one! Both, Brandon and I, feel very blesses to have such supportive and loving families and that we will both have such great in-laws.

Do you get along with your in-laws and did you have a hard time joining two families?

Marry The Person You Can’t Live Without – Wedding Wednesday!

When I first started dating and was considering marriage, my sister Bonnie told me something that I have never forgot. She said “You don’t marry a person just because you can see yourself with them, you marry them because you can imagine your life without them.” I have kept this statement close to my heart and I have never forgot it.

Marrying the love of you life that you can't live without.

A lot of people have asked me, “When did you know that Brandon was the one for you”? Can I be honest with you? When I first met Brandon I had just got out of a relationship and I wasn’t interesting in being in another one for a long time.

Although there was something about him that made me want to spend more time with him. After hanging out with him for a couple of months as friends, I didn’t know what came over me but deep down in side of me I knew something felt right. I was always happy when I was with him.

When he finally came around to asking me out, I couldn’t be happier! He was everything I every dreamed of in a guy, almost to good to be true. We were completely opposite in so many ways and yet we go along so well. I never believed people when they would said that opposites attract, I do now!

Even with all of our differences we got a long great and we spend the next 2 years growing to love one another more fondly. I can’t exactly pinpoint the time I knew Brandon is the one for me. But I will tell you this: Brandon treated me like no guy has ever treated me. He was a gentleman that respected me and showed me how a mad should treat a women. He was always there when I needed him, whether I asked him to be or not. He always put me before himself, not to mention he made sure that when I was hungry he made sure I ate, got me a blanket when I was cold and gave me flowers when I was down. It was honestly all of the little gestures of love that showed his true love, well that and he told me everyday! 😉

That and he took care of me when I needed him the most for instant; when I had strep he cared for me, he helped me recover after the extracting of my wisdom teeth and the infection that followed. Her has seen me in ever state, good or bad and took care of me through it all.

Elisabeth Has seen Better Days

I guess to answer that question I would have to say that the love just came softly! But I can guarantee that it is here to stay! I grew to respect and LOVE Brandon more than anyone and as soon as I couldn’t imagine my life without him, I knew he was the one for me. I could cry at the thought of losing him or having to spend the rest of my life without him. God has truly blessed us both and we couldn’t be more grateful

So now I will ask you: When did you know that your spouse was the one for you?

I Got Married {My Wedding}

I am so excited to announce to all of you that on September 7th, 2013 Brandon and I became Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Johnson! That’s right I am now officially Elisabeth Johnson!

Brandon and I had been dating for 2 years before he proposed. We then had a year to plan the wedding before we said our wedding vows. Little did we know just how much time and energy it would take to finalize all of the finishing details on the wedding. I took pictures and documented every detail that went into the wedding so I can share it all with you.

Here are some of the final results of the DIY projects that went into the wedding along with a quick recap of the day.

Giedre from Walking Dot Photography did an amazing job capturing all of the details of the day. You have to check her out and if you live in the Chicago land area, you have to give her a call and set something up. Or if you are every just passing through, you won’t be disappointed! You can also check out more the pictures from out big day Here!

The way I look at a wedding, it is the biggest and most fun party that you are ever going to through with all of your friends and family. Now marriage, that is a completely different thing. Brandon and I not only prepared for the wedding but for the Sacrament of Marriage as well. I will go into more details about that later but I am officially restarting my Wedding Wednesdays! I am going to start from the beginning on every single detail for planning a wedding!

I didn’t want to post all of the pictures beforehand because I wanted everything to be a surprise for all of my guest as many of them read my blog and would have known everything I was doing. So now that the wedding is over and married life has started I can now share all of my secrets with all of you.

Designing My Wedding Center Pieces {Using Clear Wine Bottles}

With the wedding only four and a half months away I feel like there is still so much to do. I know that I am going to have a ton of DIY things for the reception since I want to make sure that everything is cost efficient. Ok, and because I want everything to be perfect and just what I have envisioned.

Pinterest has been a great help with all of my planning so far! It has helped me decide so many things, for instance: My wedding color scheme along with some of my other Wedding ideas.

Although today I am going to need a little bit of your help. I can’t decide what I want to do with all of these clear glass wine bottles. My Mom and Dad were down at a winery in Missouri, where they picked up a couple dozen empty clear wine bottles that I can use for the wedding. A whole box of empty wine bottles

So naturally I would go on pinterest to see what kind of DIY’s I could come up with for clear wine glasses. These were my favorites:

This one I cold even use all of the corks I have been collecting.

Meanwhile, I had to get these bottles in shape for the wedding. I needed to remove the tops and the labels off of all of them. I thought it would take hours because there were so many.

I love old Wine Bottles

I filled up our sink with hot water and put a quarter of a teaspoon of Basic H into the tub and let them soak for 10 minutes.

Put some Basic H in a Hot Tub of water to help get the lables off easly

To my surprise all of the labels came right off! Thank you Basic H!

I am so glad it only took me 10 minutes to get all of these cleaned and not a couple of hours like I thought it would.

So after all of that work, the question still stands: What do you think I should do with all of these wine bottles? I just can’t make up my mind.
